SP 5 - Sustainable agricultural management and adaptation strategies to climate change

The aim of SP5 is to develop strategies for a sustainable agricultural land use and for land use adaptation to climate change. Agricultural land-use type, structure and intensity will be analyzed and evaluated in the test areas at farm level. Experiments on different production techniques will be carried out in order to optimize land utilization in respect to soil resources. Carbon and nutrient stocks, as well as vegetation composition and diversity will be analyzed on differently managed arable fields and ex-arable fields in the three test areas. These data will be used to develop indicators for environmental conditions and potential yields and to evaluate the potential of arable fields and ex-arable fields both for agricultural land use and biodiversity conservation.
